Debswana Pitches Japan Importance of Diamonds to Botswana

Diamond miner Debswana recently held a Botswana promotional week in Japan. The company says the main objective of the event was to highlight the contribution of diamonds towards the development of Botswana.

Debswana, a 50/50 joint venture of De Beers and the Botswana government, showcased the mining processes from mine to jewelry item and the significance of diamonds to the development of the country.

The company said that the event was held in Japan because the country is an important contributor to the welfare of Botswana.

Debswana's Managing Director Black Marole, and the company's Public and Corporate Affairs Manager Jacob Sesinyi attended the promotional events in Japan, which were reported to have cost Debswana around 200,000 pula ($34,200). Botswana's President Festus Mogae and several cabinet ministers also attended.
