Oscars Diamond Jewelry Low-Down
March 01, 05The red carpet sparkle was there as ever at the movie industry's biggest night of the year – the Oscars. And the expectation that TV viewers took a good look at who wore what, and by that influenced buyers tastes and opinions, is a given. A plethora of custom designs, the usual diamond right hand rings, and diamond studded leading men were the dominant diamond jewelry items.

Stars such as Kate Winslet and
Berry teamed up with Lorraine Schwartz to craft brown diamond briolette drop earrings.
Trends included statement earrings, large or small. Whether modern, vintage, linear or chandelier these styles were all a part of the growing trend in showcasing bold earrings. Also sighted at the Awards was hair jewelry in the form of tiaras and headbands. Brooches and bracelets were ubiquitous, as were large, powerful necklaces.
Hollywood’s leading men didn’t leave the diamond field to women, with Don Cheadle, Chris Rock, Morgan Freeman, and Samuel L. Jackson choosing sophisticated diamond accessories to accent their outfits. There were no fashion “don’ts” with diamond stud buttons (seen on Oscar winner Morgan Freeman), diamond lapel jewelry, and diamond cufflinks.

For example, Natalie Portman wore a Fred Leighton, 19th century style headband valued at $75,000 and a 3.9-carat cushion-cut diamond right hand ring. Scarlett Johansson also picked a Fred Leighton 19th century 3-star diamond tiara, valued at $55,000.
Kirsten Dunst, Fred Leighton again, had rose-cut diamond pendant earrings with diamond briolettes valued at $23,000, rose-cut diamond and rock crystal cuff bracelet worth $250,000. Maggie Gyllenhaal: diamond right hand Riviera ring with square-cut diamond and 100-carat, round-cut diamond necklace, all by Neil Lane. Jamie Foxx’s daughter Corinne also had a diamond headband.

Those considered Hollywood’s “A List” chose to go with the trends, some just with diamond right hand rings, some also had statement earrings:
Gwyneth Paltrow had an all Damiani look with a one-of-a-kind, custom-made diamond bracelet and teardrop-shaped diamond hoop earrings. Kate Winslet picked
Renee Zellweger had an emerald-cut diamond and platinum ring, diamond line necklace with emerald- and oval-cut diamonds, emerald-cut diamond and platinum bracelet – all by Cartier.
Charlize Theron took the Bulgari route with two vintage 1939 Art Deco diamond bracelets set in platinum, round- and baguette-cut diamond chandelier earrings.
Drew Barrymore – Black and white diamond carousel earrings totaling 40 carats by Neil Lane, brilliant-cut diamond link bracelet by Harry Winston, while Julia Roberts took to the red carpet in her own Cathy Waterman three-stone diamond drop earrings.

Melanie Griffith wore Harry Winston diamond drop earrings, while Imelda Staunton arrived with diamond hoop earrings, diamond brooch, and diamond right hand ring. Annette Bening had her own diamond drop earrings like Oprah Winfrey who showed up with her own diamond chandeliers with diamond drops and diamond cuff bracelet.
The men, as mentioned, did not shy away from the mined sparkle. Jamie Foxx showed off a black and white diamond watch valued at $57,000, and a diamond ring set in platinum and red gold worth $11,000, all by Chris Aire, and diamond-accented sunglasses.
