Blue Nile Sues Odimo Over Diamond Photos
October 17, 05Online diamond jewelry retailer Blue Nile has filed a lawsuit against Odimo over copyright infringement. Blue Nile alleges that Odimo subsidiary Diamond.com has copied diamond photographs and other copyright-protected materials from its site.
Rival e-commerce web sites Blue Nile and Diamond.com offer loose diamonds and diamond jewelry to consumers.
In the suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Western Washington, Blue Nile asks the court to order Diamond.com to stop using the images as well as pay unspecified monetary damages.
Odimo President and CEO Alan Lipton was quoted saying, "We believe the lawsuit is without merit and intend to vigorously defend our position."
Diamond.com launched its revamped site September 12. The new site includes photographs and graphical layouts that prompted Blue Nile to file the suit two weeks later.
