C. Mahendra Exports Inaugurates Surat Factory

C. Mahendra Exports, a DTC Sightholder, inaugurated a new $8 million diamond manufacturing factory in Surat on January 26. At full capacity the 100,000 square foot diamond cutting and polishing facility will employ 2000 people and produce 20,000 carats of polished diamonds (above 0.25 carats) per month.

Mahendra Shah, one of the founders of the CM group said at the opening that the factory will increase the annual exports of the company by 30 percent. "This is our next step forward in the future and will make the CM group even stronger and more competitive on both the manufacturing and marketing fronts," he said.

The factory was opened in the presence of the managing director of De Beers Group, Gary Ralfe, Des Cavanagh, DTC executive director of sales, and Rajiv Bhandari, managing director of De Beers India.
