Latest Mothae Finds Are Big, But Low Quality
November 21, 19(IDEX Online) - What the latest large finds from Mothae lack in quality, they more than make up for in size. Two diamonds of 220 carats and 127 carats were recovered from the treatment of recovery tailings. The 220-carat stone is the largest of the three 100+ carat stones recovered from the Lesotho mine since commercial production began in January 2019. Lucapa Diamond Company Limited, which holds a 70-percent share in the mine, along with the government of the Kingdom of Lesotho, said that while the two diamonds are not of high-quality, they continue to underline the large-stone nature of the Mothae kimberlite deposit. The company said Mothae continues to perform well in its first year of commercial production, with another monthly production record of 3,096 carats in October.
