Japan Seeking International Warrant For Jewelry Thieves
June 17, 04Japanese police are seeking an international arrest warrant for a British woman and three Serbs suspected of carrying out Japan's biggest robbery.
The four allegedly stole 12 pieces of jewelry worth almost $35 million, including a 125-carat diamond necklace worth over $27 million, from a store in Tokyo's exclusive Ginza district in March.
Tokyo police have obtained domestic arrest warrants for the four on charges of robbery and assault, and are now requesting that the global police organization Interpol place them on an international wanted list.
The two women in the gang reportedly served as lookouts while their male accomplices entered the Le Supre Diamant Couture De Maki store posing as customers.
The men put a clerk out of action with pepper spray and then smashed through a glass showcase to steal the jewelry before escaping on a motorbike.
The gang allegedly then flew to France on fake passports.
